Good Grief – No Nanos at Amazon?

So I’ve been keeping my eye on Amazon’s page for the new iPod Nanos. We went to the nearest Apple Store over the weekend to take a looksee, and I was generally impressed. 8 GB would comfortable hold my whole music library and leave plenty of room for podcasts and such, so I think I’m gonna make the move some time soon. (This means ripping into AAC the CDs I just finished ripping into WMA. I feel like Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black.) I was kinda hoping that Amazon would discount the 2G Nanos the ways they did the first generation. But right now they don’t seem to be able to keep the 8 GB models in stock at full price – the page indicates they ship in one to two weeks. Yikes.

I received a 4g Nano for my birthday last month, and I ADORE it! It’s the first mp3 player that I can strap comfortably to my arm while I’m running and still treats me like only an iPod can (my previous mp3 player was the very first generation of iPod – a dinosaur monster that weighs 2700 pounds and needs to be pushed around in a wheelbarrow to make it portable.)

I give the Nano 2 thumbs up. And you can dance to it!

My first MP3 player was a pre-iPod Rio that had about 32MB of memory. That one died suddenly, so I replaced it with another Rio with 128MB, and that worked fine until I left it in my pocket when I did the laundry. I replaced that one with another Rio, this one with 256MB. Now, the one I have is perfectly functional as an MP3 player. It even has an FM tuner, which is kinda cool. But there’s no denying the Wow-Cool factor of the iPods.

Of course, i have time to wait and see if the price of the second-gen Nanos comes down. One of the schools I’m teaching at this semester pays adjuncts monthly, and the first check doesn’t come until October. Joy!
