Hmmmm . . . a generous supply of guys in space suits, good characterization, and Warren Ellis. I think that I can safely assume that many of my husband's "comics dollars" (which oddly enough, look much like regular dollars) will be taking the express route to AiT/Planet Lar.

I am going to reserve further comment until Dave leaves some copies in our porcelain reading room for me. Sorry honey, but I want to do it justice. Sounds good so far . . .

A few random thoughts on Larry Young and his comments here:

  • I like his idea that a story can be really complete when told through the points of view of several characters. It's easy to forget the triumvirate of viewpoints expressed by the principal characters in Star Trek in favor of watching the characters themselves. But a big part of that is probably Trek's fault.

  • I also like the notion of releasing stories as complete books, rather than collecting several issues in a trade paperback. For one, it makes the medium a little more respectable in the eyes of outsiders (though I'm a big proponent for being unapologetic, sometimes it helps to pander just a little), and for another, it makes it easier for guys like me, who always wait for the paperback anyway. With stuff like Astronauts, I don't have to be tempted to read the issues before the compilation comes out.

  • "If a reader doesn't see the inherent romance in space exploration, I can't help them." Damn right, Larry.

Hey, Dave. Excellent interview; thanks very much.

Your disembodied head on the page has frightened my wife, though.

That head shot's from my wedding photo, so imagine how mine feels.

Foot Soldiers and Live from the Moon are waiting for you, Pattie. Enjoy.

(The recentyly-reviewed Foot Soldiers: Vol. I is an AiT book, and there are more volumes to come. Check it out.)
