OK, I know sl has posted various links to items on Tomato Nation but I think she either missed this one or simply hurt herself laughing that she could make it to this thread. In any case, please read this. We bow before this level of humor writing. As a warning, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT attempt to drink, eat, or even chew gum while reading this. |

Here is a fine line from the aforementioned Tomato Nation article: "the average turnip is more apologetic about tasting like mud." There's something about the notion of a turnip apologizing to me that I find appealing. |

In my own defense, I was out of the country when that was written and without a computer. I did read it yesterday and was planning on mentioning it here, but it seems I've been beaten. |

Jon Stewart/Daily Show fans should check out the show's website -- it has stories that don't appear on the show, along with clips from Headlines, which is, like, God's gift to comedy or something.(Edited because after how many months, I still screw up UBB tags.) The Onion has posted its newest issue. It deals with the terrorist attacks. It's either incredibly therapeutic -- I myself have not laughed so hard in the last few wekks, at least that I can remember -- or in poor taste. I go for the former, since the issue manages to mix satire and sincerity extraordinarily well, but I can see how others might go the other way. |

While I can see how some people might be appalled at the frankness, I think loyal Onion readers will see what they were trying to do. They obviously were running on a mix of adrenaline, frustration, anger, and grief by the time they finished the whole issue. It's the kind of thing the mainstream media could never put out which just underscores the fact that we need publications like the Onion as much as we need CNN. |

I'm in total agreement. I think that kind of humor, laced with anger and sadness, can be the equivalent of a really good scream to try and release some of the tension. To say nothing of the fact that it serves as a bit of a reminder to our public leaders that, despite our support for them, we haven't given them a totally blank check. That can only be a good thing. For less topical humor, though, Brunching Shuttlecocks is rating Things You Find in a Dollar Store. |

I just read every story on this website, and I think it may be just about the best tribute to the victims that I've seen yet.The writers address almost all of the emotions we've been feeling over the past few weeks -- anger, confusion, fear -- and does it without stepping over any lines of propriety or decency. Honestly, this is the best I've felt in weeks. |

The Onion strikes again. If you're in need of a good laugh, please see This Marriage-Counseling Scam Is A Real Moneymaker. It's funny on a multitude of levels, believe me.Just a taste... quote: I know what some of you are thinking. How can you prey on these innocent people? Hey, I didn't ask them to be born so stupid! That's their own damn fault! Or, as I find out with a lot of them, it's their parents' fault. (When in doubt, trace it back to the parents.) It's like they're begging to be ripped off. Some of them, I've had coming in on a weekly basis for years! So, this month alone, it's $200, $200, $200, $200... thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Abramson, and don't let the glass door with my name tastefully stenciled on it hit you on the ass on the way out.

Speaking of random generators, I've always liked the Urban Legend Machine. I've always wanted to generate some legends and send them out to the friends and relatives who send me emails whose subject headings read "FW: Fw: (FW): FW: URGENT!" or "Fw: FW: FW: FW: (F(FW)W): Fw:FW: WARNING TO WOMEN!" |

For those who have ever wondered, "Gee, I wonder what would happen if British science fiction fans ever set up a publication like The Onion, devoted strictly to SF," may I present Tachyon TV.It's horribly full of in jokes, but they're funny in jokes. |

Any good April Fool sites out there? A friend of mine pointed me to www.teevee.org which is a fine effort, I think. It's a mock newspaper; among the headlines: quote: Popular Governor Considers Independent Run for White House By JESSICA TATE Potentially complicating the 2002 Presidential race, three-term governor Benson DuBois is considering a third-party run against President Bartlet and presumptive Republican nominee Robert Ritchie.

I think I have to take back my previous recommendation of Tachyon. They've gone from fairly witty in jokes to just taking easy potshots at various targets. Just goes to show how hard it is do effective news satire on a regular basis. On the other hand, I'm having some fun looking through the Doonesbury site. |

Brunching Shuttlecocks just went to a weekly update format. (New formats seem to be all the rage these days, huh?) I was having a seriously bad day Monday, but Lore's See Clearly strip managed to pretty much sum up how I was feeling and make me laugh like a hyena for five minutes. Now that's comedy. |

The Onion strikes again. I'm particularly fond of this home-buying hint quote: If you cannot afford the home of your dreams, perhaps you can afford the home of Barbie's dreams.
For the record, I was considering a yurt already. So I'm ahead of the game.

Better than:Q: Can you give me an example of when you might curse? A: Hmm, let me give you a hypothetical. Let’s say a man is holding a big boulder over my head, and then he drops that boulder onto my head. I would curse in a situation like that. I'm sorry I missed that. And Internet Archive doesn't seem to have any record of it either. Dadburn it. |

Yeah I don't know why he gets rid of the old stuff when he puts new items on there. The "Earl The Mechanic" sketch was funny and his "You too!" joke is just classic!I may have to grab his CD at some point. I'm holding out to see if he comes out with a DVD release. Supposedly new merchandise is on the way, we'll have to wait and see what it is. |

I remember being in my late teens and "amending" one of those vending-machine-falling-on-a-little-guy warning labels with some press type that I had handy that night at work. For no readily apparent reason, one day someone noticed that the warning sticker suddenly had - rather nicely laid out - a "GRRRRR!" by the vending machine rectangle and "Oh @#$%!" by the little guy. And it stayed that way for quite a long time... |
